I was recently doing a workshop on table manners and dating etiquette for 6th formers or seniors, at a well known prep school and boarding school in the northeast. I realized that dealing with generation y's that I needed to be very non gender specific with the rules of dating. However, to my surprise, this nearly unisex generation still maintains the old fashion rules of dating! I was shocked but pleasantly surprised. This is what the majority felt:

1. It is the guys responibility to be prepared for "safe sex" (I did correct them on this and taught that it is   most definately both genders responsibility and that both genders should have their own protection.) 

2. Guys should pay on the first date (However, I did mention that the gender that asks should treat.)

3. If a guy runs into a girl he likes at an event he should offer both the girl he likes, and her friends (if they are standing together, )if they would like a beverage.

4. That a double standard still exists as far as time-lines for break-ups and re-dating, and also for promiscuity.

5. Guys that show courtesies such as opening cars doors, doors, and pulling chairs etc. are favored to those that do not present these traits.
