Facebook Etiquette

With over 570 billion page views per month and half a billion active users, Facebook has become one of the leading websites in the world. How easy is it now to keep in touch with your high school BFF, reconnect with your friend across seas or maybe just get the scoop on a significant other’s ex, a jealous co-worker, or a future employer. Either way, one should always be careful of what he or she decides to post on fb. A few etiquette pointers will you remain private, but still allow a fun networking environment.
- The Prof Pic: First impression is everything. You do not need a professional photograph as fb is about being personal. Think of it this way, if your profile picture is not suitable to hang up in your office, give to your prof
essor, mom, dad or grandma, you probably do not want it posted on fb. - Wall Traffic: Do you yell conversations across the hallways or streets with your friend about where you plan to meet up later or about some kind of funky rash you have? Be mindful of your status updates, wall posts and photo comments.
- Save the Drama: Remain upbeat and and keep the drama for your bff.
- Privacy: Your book, your info. Take advantage of the privacy settings.
- Befriending People: That gal or guy may be good looking or seem friendly, but you have no idea what their motives are if you do not know them personally.
- Golden Rule: Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you. In laymen terms, do not post unflattering photos of other people and tag them or comment embarrassing moments on a public wall, etc. It’s just rude and what goes around comes around.
